Really Good Logos Explained shares the thoughts and opinions of 4 designers on the topic of logo design. Margo Chase, Rian Hughes, Ron Miriello, and Alex W. White explain what makes each logo design effective, or how the design could have been improved. What might be hard form some, they had to present their material with a straightforward approach and explain it with 5 sentences or less. this, in my opinion, made for a good read.

Upon hearing the news of the Pentagram win, I headed over to their site, where I found the large AkzoNobel logo. Visit the site now, and the new Bruce logo design image is nowhere to be found. It seems they have taken it down for some reason.

Typographic poster by Cameron Moll

I wanted to share this poster I stumbled upon today. It is designed by Cameron Moll, a very talented designer who is great with typography. The poster illustrates the Roman Coliseum which was hand crafted letter character by letter character. Moll spent a total of 250 hrs on this great work of art. Typefaces used on the poster include Trajan and Bembo Pro.

Named Colosseo, after the Coliseum in Italian, the poster measures 24″ by 16″ and is signed by Cameron. You can buy 1 of 1000 signed posters through his store website at

Not the gold, but 100% Green for Sun Chips

Within the past 5 years, Sun Chips have removed over 5 million pounds of packaging waste through package size optimizations, film thickness improvements and seal changes. As innovative as their improvements have been, the materials being used provided limits on what Sun Chips could do. The reduction of waste and materials proved very cost effective, but not enough for them. Sun Chips’ brand image takes the green route and creating a 100% compostable package can position the brand into the forefront of green business. After 4 years of research and field trials, Sun Chips has found the packaging material called PLA, trademarked as Ingeoâ„¢.

Pentagram: Winner at the Transform Awards 2010

Rebrand of the Co-operative by Pentagram’s Harry Pearce.

Pentagram partners Harry Pearce and Angus Hyland pull a total 7 awards at the Transform Awards 2010. Transform Awards being the only awards in the UK to celebrate rebranding, brand transformation and reputational change. Pearce’s rebranding of C0-operative earned the Grand Prix for excellence, along with two gold awards for best brand architecture and best national rebrand.

Awarded projects include the rebranding for Co-operatative, AkzoNobel and Grant Thornton identity designs. Hyland’s work for AkzoNobel received two gold and a silver and his work for Grant Thornton received a gold.

With that in mind, after a useful quarter of a century, The New York Public Library decided to change their visual identity. A new, modernized version of their well known lion has taken shape.
