One of the best people I’ve had the chance to work for is, Chris Froeter from Froeter Design. He has a great sense of balance in design and a very keen eye for the smallest of details. Froeter Design is also one of the best graphic design studios in Chicago. But above all else, he is the coolest person in the design world. A common question with design studios is, who have you worked for (see more interviewing questions)? When I answer Chris Froeter, they all say the same thing, he is one of the nicest guys in design.. and one of the best too.
So I got my big chance and freelanced for Chris for 2 months, some months back. I worked on an identity, brochure, the email blast posted here, and some smaller projects.
The email blast was for M3, a capital investment firm. The brief provided dimensions, Headline, copy and Chris’ direction–to apply my illustrative style to a snowflake.
The concept came to me right away. M3 is an international company located in 4 primary cities around the world; Chicago, New York, London, and Hong Kong. The international reference was important because it positions M3 as a company that not only does business around the world, but proves its success by acknowledging their international client base. I illustrated prime architectural landmarks from each city to combine into the snowflake and added the line, ‘To Everyone Around the World, From M3′. The gray background had to be included, but I like it.
